        <description> Five Bridgend College Construction students were awarded medals, out of a total 15 medals available in either Gold, Silver and Bronze place, in the South Wales regional heat of a top construction competition organised by ConstructionSkills and supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.

        <title> Annual Awards Ceremony 2010</title>
        <description> Bridgend College rolled out the red carpet again at this year's Annual Awards Ceremony at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl on Tuesday 2nd March.

Over 200 staff, students and guests attended the awards evening and were joined by guest speaker Mr Nigel Walker, BBC Head of Change and Internal Communications and former professional athlete and rugby player. Mr Walker presented a number of awards and gave an inspirational and motivational speech about determination, commitment and achieving success.

        <title> Bridgend College Wins ColegauCymru Award</title>
        <description> Bridgend College are delighted to announce that we have won a prestigious ColegauCymru Award, at this years ColegauCymru/College&acirc;€™s Wales Awards Ceremony, held at the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff on the 27th May.

Bridgend College received the award for: &acirc;€˜Outstanding use of Technology&acirc;€™ &acirc;€“ for the development and implementation of the BRAVO (Bridgend College Risk Assessment and Value Added) System.

        <title> Bridgend College Celebrates VQ Day</title>
        <description> Bridgend College Students studying BTEC National Diploma in Forensic Science, participated in the annual VQ (Vocational Qualifications) Day celebrations, at the Pierhead building, Cardiff Bay on Wednesday 23rd June.  Millions of people gain a vocational qualification every year as a stepping stone to further study, better jobs and enhanced skills. Bridgend College believes this is worth celebrating, so along with many other FE Colleges, we take part in and recognise VQ Day, which was launched in 2008 to raise the profile of vocational qualifications and celebrate vocational success.

        <title> Art, Design &amp; Media Exhibition 2010</title>
        <description> The 14th Annual Art, Design &amp; Media Exhibition took place at our Pencoed Campus on Friday 18th June until Wednesday 23rd June. The exhibition opened with a private viewing of the students&acirc;€™ work on the Friday evening.  The exhibition attracted over 350 visitors across the 4 days that it was open. Leading to a substantial number of the exhibition work sold to private buyers as well as a number of commissioned work sales.

        <title> David Miliband MP visits Bridgend College</title>
        <description> Huw Irranca-Davies MP welcomed Labour Party Leadership candidate and Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Miliband MP, to the constituency on Friday 9th July, for a public meeting which was held at our Construction Academy.  Over 140 people &acirc;€“ Labour Party members, members of the public, college staff and students and sixth form students from right across the borough &acirc;€“ attended to hear David outline his vision for the future of the Labour Party and the country and questioned him on issues close to their heart.

        <title> 'Don't Stop Believing' at Bridgend College </title>
        <description> Bridgend College are delighted to announce that 10 of their BTEC National Diploma Musical Theatre students have made it to the live final of Channel Five's hugely successful hit talent show- 'Don't Stop Believing', on Sunday 15th August.  TrueDynaMix, consisting of 14 members, was created over 2 months ago, when the members were handpicked by South Wales Choreographer and Bridgend College Performing Arts lecturer- Terry Michael. The members of TrueDynaMix rehearse at Bridgend College and Terry's stage school-'TDM Stage School', in Port Talbot, which he established in 1999.

        <title> St. Dwynwen</title>
        <description> Staff and Students from Bridgend College and members of the Community Group 'The Moving Forward Project'b celebrated - St Dwynwen's Day (the Patron Saint of Welsh Lovers) on the morning of Tuesday 25th January. The day is a celebration of our Welsh language, culture and enterprise initiative through exciting interactive events and concluded with 'One Big CwTcH' at 12:15pm. 

The purpose of 'One CwTcH' is to create new opportunities for young people in Wales.  This year, Bridgend College Business students decided to raise awareness and money to support Llangynwyd Primary School in Maesteg. Their aim is to generate &pound;2500 to build an outside classroom to support educational development.

        <title> First Minister Carwyn Jones Opens Construction Academy</title>
        <description> First Minister Carwyn Jones was joined by Janice Gregory AM for Ogmore, invited guests from the construction sector and Bridgend College students and staff, to officially open our &pound;5 million Construction Academy, at our Pencoed Campus, on the afternoon of Thursday 10th February.

Our new Construction Academy is part of the College's overall &pound;11m Capital Development programme - aimed at providing '21st Century Learning Campuses'. The development projects include new Learning Resource Centres, new Refectories and a range of trendy student Social Spaces on all 3 of our main campuses, as well as a new Higher Education Centre at our Queens Road campus and a state of the art 400 seat Lecture Theatre/Performing Arts venue, with 4HD projection technology, at our Bridgend campus.

        <title> Staff star in ‘Cyfnewid’ on S4C </title>
        <description> On Wednesday 23rd March, staff from Bridgend College took part in the ‘Cyfnewid’ programme broadcast on S4C.

Claire George (Business and IT Tutor) and Heledd Smith (Welsh Tutor) promoted the ‘Cwtch’ initiative and the Bottle Greenhouse project and talked about various aspects of students’ work including the brooches made by Art and Design students which were also featured. Claire and Heledd can be seen at 3.55 minutes into the film.

Catherine Williams (Welsh for Adults Co-ordinator) also made an appearance with some students from her advanced Welsh class promoting our Welsh for Adult courses and Erina Roberts (Care Assistant, Weston House) was brave enough to be hosting the evening of filming at her home! Catherine is featured at 15.06 minutes into the film.

        <title> Creative Arts Apprenticeships</title>
        <description> The School of Creative Arts have recently launched their Creative Arts Apprenticeship programme, providing the Community Arts route.

The Creative Arts Apprenticeships is a product from ‘Creative and Cultural Skills’. The Programme has been designed in response to findings which indicated that more work based learning was required within our sectors, and Creative and Cultural Skills wanted to design a fit for purpose apprenticeship framework that meets the employers needs in both content and design.

The apprenticeships will provide, for the first time, high quality, paid, work-based qualifications at entry and supervisory levels in technical and specialist skills areas where 42% of Welsh Creative and Cultural sector employers have identified current and future skill needs.

        <title> Minister Opens New HE Centre </title>
        <description> Bridgend College was thrilled to welcome Leighton Andrews, Minister for Children, Education &amp; Lifelong Learning to open our new Higher Education Centre on Thursday, 31st March 2011.

The Centre is dedicated to our 1,150 higher education students and offers a unique environment for them to study for Foundation Degrees, HNDs, Degrees and professional qualifications on a full or part-time basis locally. The Centre provides state of the art Information Technology, Photography and New Media design facilities, in addition to comprehensive student learning and chill out zones.

As the largest provider of Higher Education courses in the Further Education sector in Wales, Bridgend College has successfully increased its reputation as a quality provider of courses, level 4 and upwards within the South Wales region. A year on year growth has been achieved, with an outstanding uplift of 9% increase in applications, 32% increase in applicant acceptances and a 14% increase in the total number of enrolments in 2010. This success has contributed to the Higher Education Centre being part funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and forms part of the College’s overall &pound;11m Capital Development programme.

        <title> Rugby Academy Congratulates Bridgend Ravens</title>
        <description> Bridgend College was thrilled to see Bridgend Ravens lift the Division 1 title recently, particularly in light of the contribution the Bridgend College Rugby Academy has made to the Raven’s team.

The College is extremely proud of is its continued contribution to local, regional and national rugby. The College provides seven players to the current Bridgend Ravens team as well as former players, Matthew Morgan, Rhys Webb, Gareth Owen and Scott Baldwin of the Ospreys to name but a few.

Ravens Head Coach Steve Tandy says “It is really important that Bridgend gives its young aspiring rugby players a clear pathway for each player to fulfil his potential. Within that framework there needs to be good quality coaching, facilities and enjoyment, as well as first class education. Bridgend College ticks all of those boxes”.

        <title> Labour Leader Carwyn Jones meets with Students </title>
        <description> On Tuesday 12th April, Labour leader Carwyn Jones addressed over 150 students from our Bridgend and Pencoed campuses, and answered a wide range of questions about issues affecting young people today including housing, health, student finance, the welfare system, employment and immigration.

This meeting came about as a result of Hayley Townsend of the College’s Student Council contacting his office. As Hayley explains “I feel it’s important that the students are aware of the upcoming election and have the opportunity for their voices to be heard. I invited Carwyn to address our students as I knew he lived in Bridgend and because his party has been influential in securing student finance in the past.”
